What is it ?
The Fri-Pass is a pass which gives you access to different touristic activities or places in the canton of Fribourg: you can discover culture, activities, landscapes with impressive views, and it is available for children, families, elderly people, etc.
You can choose between three different passes: one day, two days, or three days and a card for families (two adults and two children), children (6-16 years old), and adult with or without travel card. The prices vary between 20 CHF and 240 CHF. The pass offers 30 different activities and a 30% off with some partners. You can also travel for free with the public transportation and the pass gives you some ideas for walking trails as well.
How does it work?
First, you need to go on the Fri-Pass website, in a tourism office or in the railway station and buy the pass you chose. You can then discover the activities, transports, museums suggested, like for example, Maison Cailler, Castle of Gruyères, Art and History Museum, Cable car of Charmey, etc.
There are three colors related to the three kinds of offers: the green one is for the activities, the pink one for museums and the orange one for the transports. This system helps people finding what they are interested in more easily on the Fri-Pass map. When you go to the chosen activity, you only need to present your pass, a member of the staff scans the QR-code at the entrance and you can enjoy your activity or travel!
Advantages and disadvantages
The greatest advantage of the Fri-Pass is certainly its price. Indeed, as is it quite pricy travelling in Switzerland, being able to travel for free is advantageous. According to the price, it is also really interesting to take part in activities with your whole family for an affordable price; if you have to pay the entrance fees for all the family, it can be very expensive. Moreover, the Fri-Pass gives ideas for new activities to do or new ways to go.
However, a disadvantage of the Fri-Pass could be that it only lasts for a little time and it can be quite difficult to do many activities in one, two or three days, the days are then really full.
The Fri-Pass seems to be a good idea which could also be applied to other cantons, and we could maybe imagine an alternative which would last for a longer period so that people could enjoy their pass without having to condense the activities in a short time.
